Robert Hansen Murders
One incident in June 1983 involved a 17-year-old, who was abducted and taken to Hansen’s home, where he held her captive. She managed to escape when Hansen took her to an airport, fleeing while he was distracted. She was able to flag down a passing truck and seek help at a nearby motel, where she was later found and taken to the police station. Despite her account of events and the evidence she left behind in Hansen’s car, his polite demeanor and reputation as a baker initially led investigators to dismiss him as a suspect.
Joshua Wade Murders
In 2007, Wade resurfaced as a prime suspect when he murdered Mindy Schloss, a nurse practitioner who had been reported missing. After abducting her, he stole her car and accessed her bank accounts before killing her and leaving her body in a remote wooded area. His violent actions and the circumstantial evidence led to a federal indictment for Schloss’s murder in 2008. Wade pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison.
